TADs are “Temporary Anchorage Devices”–titanium-alloy mini screws, ranging from 6 to 12 milimeters in length and 1.2 to 2 milimeters in diameter. They are fixed to the bone temporarily to enhance orthodontic anchorage. Titanium alloys have been used as joint replacements and for dental implants for many years. These alloys are not rejected by the body. Dr. Tamara Shamlian is well-trained in the use of TADs. She has traveled to South Korea and Thailand to learn from TAD developers and experts and has lectured on the topic herself.
